In a relatively short period of time, the foundation was made, composed of a large number of (mortar) screw piles injected into the ground. And all this completely vibration-free, without any inconvenience to the surroundings. An interview with Remko Peters, Marketing Manager of AA Screw Piles, about the advantages of this method of foundation construction.
As an established relationship of Jongen Construction Partners, AA Screw Piles was called in to lay the foundation. "With more than 25 years of experience, we have all the knowledge to produce vibration-free inserted (mortar) screw piles," says Peters. "A major advantage of this technique is that we can deliver much faster and more flexibly than other foundation systems. We are able to produce a complete foundation for houses, commercial buildings and apartment buildings in a short time, such as here for Manhattan Urban Residence."
The (mortar) screw piles are formed into the ground on site by AA Screw Piles. "With our mobile drilling rigs, we drill a 'hole' to the requested depth and in the desired diameter," Peters explains. "Once at the lowest point, a valve opens, we slowly pull the drill up and the concrete and later the rebar are inserted. This method of foundation causes practically no noise or nuisance in the form of vibrations. It is much friendlier to the environment than, for example, pile driving. Foundations can therefore be laid in the vicinity or even right next to existing buildings without any problems. We produce the (mortar) screw piles on site in various diameters and pole lengths up to 24 meters. In doing so, we use a diversity of machines, such as mobile drilling rigs (weight ranging from about 45 to 68 tons), concrete pumps (capacity 150 cubic meters per hour) and midi-excavators."
Another advantage of using (mortar) screw piles, according to Peters, is that you can make last-minute changes to the design. "The piles are formed in the ground, so a different diameter or greater depth is in principle not a problem." Nevertheless, realizing (mortar) screw piles requires the necessary coordination. "For example, for 100% we must be able to rely on the concrete mortar suppliers. We therefore work with regular partners, so that we can always deliver within the specified time frame. After all, we put quite a lot of concrete mortar into the ground. Concrete mixers often drive back and forth. In a pile of, for example, 12 meters deep with a diameter of 40 centimeters soon goes about 5 m³ concrete mortar."
Speed, delivery time, price and minimal inconvenience were important arguments for Jongen Bouwpartners to execute the Manhattan foundation with (mortar) screw piles from AA Screw Piles, Peters knows. "Due to good coordination and preparation by our client, the project went smoothly for everyone."
