Last corona time was a busy period for Van de Haterd Sand and Cement Trade in Oss. "We notice that people have been home a lot and therefore choose more quickly to renovate, build a garage or a swimming pool in the garden," says Jannicke van de Haterd, daughter of founder Toon van de Haterd and all-rounder within the company.
The company also has nothing to complain about in terms of wholesale clientele. For example, Van de Haterd supplies the Rapid Set quick-drying concrete to gas stations and airports, among others. There it is used for runways. Toon van de Haterd: "It is very suitable for construction work that requires high durability and rapid strength increase. With this mortar, builders achieve time savings of 75% on the construction of ready-to-use concrete floors compared to conventional construction methods."
The product is shrink-proof and can be produced on site with volumetric mixers. In fact, its greatest advantage, the drying speed, also creates a major logistical challenge. After all, transport from a fixed concrete plant to the construction site is not possible. Rapid concrete is therefore created at the construction site and processed immediately. Three hours after application, the floor is fully cured and thus ready for use. The strength is then 45 Newton. The floor of gas stations, for example, is then liquid-tight and BRL SIKB 7700-certified.
Family business Van de Haterd was founded over forty years ago by father Toon van de Haterd and expanded its operations during those years. Van de Haterd Sand and Cement Trade supplies sand and cement to flooring companies and concrete to both private individuals and construction companies. Subsidiary Mixmaster International supplies and maintains floor trucks for processing cementitious mortars, including foam concrete and EPS and, of course, cement screeds.
The company excels in service orientation. For example, it is always available six days a week and even seven if necessary. Jannicke van de Haterd: "The floor layer can come to us for everything: from sand and cement to maintenance of the floor truck and work tools. We offer everything under one roof." For companies or individuals who prefer to collect sand or cement themselves, Van de Haterd has a fully automated mortar plant.
The Osse company is also engaged in the development toward sustainable construction. For example, the first test results of Geo Polymer are very good. "That is a concrete type without cement that is produced sustainably," says Toon van de Haterd. "The costs are still high, but we do need to look at sustainable alternatives to continue to meet sustainability requirements." After all, cement plants consume a lot of gas, and that is not only becoming more expensive, but also scarcer.
