In January 2021, work will start on the sewer boring Enschotsestraat in Tilburg. The boring is part of Tilburg's Delta Plan "The Blue Vein" and should contribute to better drainage of rainwater in the city center. Combination Van der Ven - K-boringen will realize this project and thus joins the construction of the Tilburg Delta Plan for the fourth time.
Four years ago, G. van der Ven B.V. Aannemingsbedrijf and K-boringen together realized the closed front drilling for the Midden Brabantweg-Hasseltstraat and Fatima Street. In previous years they also carried out the closed front drilling for the Havendijk-Lanciersstraat. Now the combination is hooking up again to realize the sewer boring Enschotsestraat. Because of the specific technique for this project and the successful previous cooperation, the knowledge and skills of K-boringen from Belgium are again being called upon. The municipality of Tilburg awarded the project to the combination in October this year and they are currently busy with the preparations. Both companies know the challenges of drilling in the city center and know that it is not a case of 'copy-and-paste'. The Enschotsestraat has different challenges and peculiarities than previous projects.
The total bore has a length of 1.2 kilometers and a diameter of as much as 2 meters. The surrounding area is frequently used by residents, visitors and businesses. The Enschotsestraat is an important connection between the Ringbaan-Oost and the NS square and there are many businesses in the street that must remain easily accessible. These different functions present the Brakel contractor with quite a challenge in terms of environmental management.
"We fully support the choice of closed front boring," says Martin den Otter, Project Manager at G. van der Ven B.V. Aannemingsbedrijf. "Although this method is technically a lot more challenging than opening up the road, it has the great advantage that the street remains optimally accessible. In a busy area like the center of Tilburg, this is important. It prevents enormous inconvenience to the surrounding area."
To limit vibrations and noise pollution, the contractor combination is deploying vibration-free construction pits. There will also be a regulated overflow function on the Wilhelmina canal and much attention will be paid to communication with residents and businesses. This is done, among other things, through the ConstructionApp. Through this app, users of the area can see where and when work is being done. The sewer boring Enschotsestraat is expected to be completed by the end of December 2021.
