With more than thirty years of experience in foundations, Brefu Funderingstechniek is an established name. The company has a strong focus on foundation repair and especially in confined spaces and under difficult conditions. For example, the foundation specialist is currently engaged in large-scale foundation repair at many locations in Rotterdam.
In Rotterdam, many pre-war buildings suffer from poor foundations. Partly due to the lowering of the groundwater level, the pile foundations are plagued by wood rot. "Our clients are housing corporations, investors, developers, contractors and private individuals," says Marco Poppelaars, director of Brefu Funderingstechniek. "In many cases, we take on the work including permit applications and all additional work. We try to unburden our clients as much as possible in that respect."
Brefu Funderingstechniek is a total foundation repair contractor. "We provide the complete package from the conversation at the kitchen table and the engineering to the actual execution and delivery," Poppelaars continues. "Often we also work in construction teams, such as currently with Jurriens. We handle the foundation repair, they handle the finishing. It concerns an assignment from Woonstad on Katendrecht where we are repairing the foundation of thirty properties. We are replacing the existing pile foundation with a concrete foundation with internally driven tubular piles. In total, we are processing approximately 9 kilometers of tubular pile on this project alone. And that's not the only project, because on average we are working on twelve locations simultaneously in Rotterdam. To date, we have repaired approximately 500 buildings in the Maas city."
With foundation repair, Brefu Funderingstechniek's focus is mainly on the Rotterdam region and surroundings. The foundation specialist also has the necessary piling and drilling techniques in-house, with which it operates nationwide and sometimes makes a trip to Belgium to realize a foundation with driven tube pile, press pile, casing rotary pile or screw injection pile. "If required, we also take care of the complete engineering of the foundation repair, the geotechnical advice, the soil and demolition work and the braiding and concrete work," says Poppelaars. "We do this with a close-knit team of about 45 employees, more than half of whom are employed in-house. Given our well-filled order book, we are constantly looking for motivated employees."
