Right from the start of the year, the tone at Meco Metal was set: busy, busier, busiest. The order book is well-stocked, and demand from parent company Altez Construction Group is high. This has ensured a flying start to 2026 and instills confidence for the rest of the year.
The new year got off to a great start with the move to the Altez Construction Group’s new headquarters. The new office is not only a showcase for the company, but also a tangible demonstration of its expertise and innovation. Ergonomic workstations, well-designed acoustics, and advanced climate control ensure a comfortable and stimulating work environment. The building incorporates 80 tons of steel, naturally sourced from Meco Metal’s own production.

According to manager Domien Driesen, the industrial building will also undergo changes. “Significant steps have already been taken here, such as the installation of a new low-voltage system and the switch to fiber optics. Soon, the exterior will undergo a transformation to better align with our new headquarters.” In addition, substantial investments have been made in the machinery. “The new bending bench now allows us to bend steel in-house. This used to be outsourced, but is now done entirely in-house, leading to fewer transport movements and a more efficient production process. Furthermore, a new sawing and drilling machine is still on the wish list, as is a plasma cutting table for heavier materials.”
Progress is also being made in the area of production optimization. “For example, we plan to purchase steel with a welding primer applied, which will eliminate the need for an extra step on the construction site,” explains Driesen. “We are currently exploring the possibilities of using cored welding wire, which can increase production speed without compromising quality.”
That focus on quality is no empty promise. Lean practices are deeply embedded in the organization. “Our commitment to continuous improvement and optimal production flow makes us a leader in the metal sector,” says Remi Moonen, a planner at Meco Metal. “The workshop is exceptionally clean and organized, something that even external experts notice. A recent visit by an independent lean specialist led to great admiration. What has been achieved here is rarely seen in the sector.” It is striking that this way of working is not only embraced by management, but also by the employees on the shop floor.

“Despite all the technological advances, people remain at the heart of our business,” Moonen assures us. “At the same time, the reality is that labor is in short supply. That’s why we’re focusing on further automation and retraining workers—such as welders—to become assemblers. We’re also investing heavily in training and development, with a special focus on young people and creating a pleasant work environment to foster long-term loyalty.” With a strong start to the year and a well-filled order book, Driesen looks ahead with confidence. “The ambition is clear: to continue developing step by step, without trying to grow too quickly. With a focus on quality and reliability. A deal is a deal: if we promise to deliver on Monday, we will. If necessary, we’ll work through Saturday or even Sunday to make that promise a reality.”
