Bicycles are playing an increasingly important role in Dutch mobility. Not only recreational users and schoolchildren, but also commuters, e-bikers, and cargo bike riders are opting en masse for two-wheelers. This means busier paths, greater variation in speed, and heavier loads on the infrastructure. As a result, expectations regarding safety, comfort, and sustainability are higher than ever.
Prefab modular bike paths offer a proven system for this: quick to install, low maintenance, and ready for the future. They combine the robustness of concrete with the flexibility of a modular design. For clients and end users, this means safer, more comfortable, and more sustainable cycling, with infrastructure that can last for generations.

Since 2006, Easypath Nederland BV has been developing prefab concrete elements that are connected via a wedge joint to form a single, smooth, flat cycle path. What started as an innovative idea has now grown into a well-established system that is widely used in the Netherlands and Belgium, from urban residential areas to dune areas. For clients such as municipalities, provinces, water boards, and recreation boards, this means predictable quality, shorter construction times, and a bicycle path that will last for generations.

The strength of the system lies in its combination of precision and simplicity. The elements are produced under quality assurance and are then seamlessly connected during installation. The result is a flat road surface without any noticeable joints. This immediately improves cycling comfort, while cracking and root pressure are a thing of the past. Thanks to the high-quality reinforced concrete, the preparatory groundwork for the trench or subgrade can be kept to a minimum. These properties make Easypath cycle paths low-maintenance, weed-resistant, and with an expected lifespan of more than sixty years. For managers, this means fewer interventions and predictable costs, while users benefit from a safe and comfortable route every day.
Prefab modularity makes the system particularly flexible. Easypath is available in various sizes and can be easily adapted to any route, even on sloping or fragile terrain. Because the elements can be dismantled, cables and pipes always remain accessible. This greatly simplifies future maintenance or redesign and contributes to the high residual value and reuse of the materials.
The turnkey nature is another important advantage. Easypath not only supplies the elements, but also provides complete engineering and implementation if desired. This way, the client can be sure that the design, construction, and finishing will fit together seamlessly.

Easypath continues to develop its product with solutions that respond to current social challenges. Thermopath® keeps paths free of ice and snow without the use of road salt, Reflexpath® increases visibility with a reflective, wear-resistant top layer, Climatepath® combines a cycle path with water storage, and Solarpath® even uses the path as a source of energy. Prefab concrete elements can also be fitted with gas-permeable openings. These subtle holes allow gas to escape naturally, preventing accumulation and making gas leaks easier to trace and measure. With these innovations, the cycle path is becoming more than just infrastructure: it is a multifunctional carrier of safety, climate adaptation, and energy transition.
What clients particularly appreciate is the integrated approach. Easypath contributes ideas from the design phase onwards, coordinates details, and ensures that construction proceeds efficiently and with minimal disruption. This makes the system not only technically robust, but also attractive from an organizational and financial perspective. Director Jim Brouwer sums it up aptly: “The best moment? When we deliver a project that makes the client happy and where cyclists feel the difference every day.”
Prefabricated, modular construction in concrete is no longer an experiment, but a proven approach that combines comfort and sustainability. Easypath demonstrates that bike paths can be future-proof: robust in use, flexible in application, and prepared for the social challenges of tomorrow. For clients, this means control over quality, costs, and lifespan; for users, it simply means more cycling enjoyment.
