Three years ago, RvR Concrete Pump Rental introduced the world's first battery-powered concrete pump. A hit, not least because of the increasing number of sites with CO2 emission restrictions. But also the improved comfort is not to be underestimated: the battery concrete pump is silent and emission-free. The high demand for the battery concrete pump has made RvR Betonpomp Verhuur decide to expand its fleet with a number of new and, innovative as the company is, further developed units.
The battery concrete pump is a completely in-house development of RvR Concrete Pump Rental. It is an environmentally friendly alternative to the diesel concrete pump, without compromising on power or capacity. In fact, the battery concrete pump can pump as much concrete as RvR Concrete Pump Rental's regular compact diesel concrete pumps. "The quiet and emission-free qualities of the pump make it ideal for areas with noise restrictions or emission-free zones, such as the inner city or Natura2000 areas," says director René van Rijs. "Although we do notice that more and more customers are already asking for the battery-powered concrete pump directly, even when there are no emission restrictions. The pump is simply much better for people and the environment."
RvR Concrete Pump Rental has put a lot of energy into the development of the cordless concrete pump. "We are a progressive company and constantly looking for new techniques and methods. As a result, we were able to make the first generation battery concrete pump even better and more compact. The battery pack is no longer on the pump, but in the canister. With a full battery we can pump for at least 6 hours. If necessary, the battery can also be recharged during pumping via a standard 380-volt construction power connection," Van Rijs explains. Colleague and co-director Hans de Bruin adds: "We charge the batteries with solar energy, generated by a PV installation on the roof of our production hall. Moreover, we are eagerly looking forward to compact electric trucks with sufficient towing and loading capacity. Then the sustainable circle will be complete."
The latest generation battery-powered concrete pump has now been included in the rental fleet and is deployed nationwide. With branches in Montfoort (head office), Lunteren, Roelofarendsveen, 's-Hertogenbosch and Krimpen aan den IJssel, RvR is able to provide optimal service to its customers. "We offer a total package with concrete pumps and mixers in various shapes and sizes, ranging from the compact (battery) concrete pump to various boom pumps up to 67 meters high, all complete with all accessories," assures De Bruin. "We like to think along with the customer for a while about the right concrete composition and the most efficient way of pumping." Through that route, Heidelberg Materials (formerly Mebin) has also already become acquainted with the battery concrete pump. "Besides being sustainable, the battery concrete pump is also pleasant for our concrete mixer drivers. Working with it is cleaner and the pump also makes no noise," said Rob de Jong of Heidelberg Materials.
Heidelberg Materials is committed to people and the environment and, for example, also operates an electric concrete mixer. "Our cordless concrete pump then completes the sustainable picture," says Van Rijs. "Sometimes we also deploy the battery concrete pump on regular jobs, without being explicitly asked, in order to let customers experience the benefits and motivate them to order a battery concrete pump next time."
