Vitens, the largest drinking water company in the Netherlands, is building a new 3,000 m³ water reservoir in Aalten (province of Gelderland) next to the existing water tower on the Ringweg. The current tower can no longer properly regulate the pressure in the pipeline network. With the new reservoir, Vitens wants to increase the security of supply and flexibility of the drinking water system. The reservoir will be built largely underground and will appear next to the characteristic old water tower.

Contractor Salverda Bouw from ’t Harde is performing the work under a multi-year framework agreement with Vitens. For the formwork systems, Salverda Bouw chose Construx. Beforehand, the contractor visited some projects where the Construx systems were in use and also visited the showroom in Maarsbergen. The positive experiences with the quality of the concrete and the systems were the decisive factor to work with Construx.

The Construx Tricon steel system formwork is used for the walls of the reservoir. This system developed by Construx belongs to the category of heavy steel formwork, but remains relatively light and craneable due to its clever construction. The panels are versatile for walls, columns and beams and can be loaded up to 80 kN/m2. Thorough quality assurance in design, production and logistics ensures consistently high quality.
The largest panels measure 330 x 240 cm. For this project, the panels are stacked to a wall height of 7.2 m and reinforced with pass beams, pouring scaffolding and fall protection. Choosing panels instead of concrete plywood offers a more durable alternative that can be used more often.

For the roof and floor, Construx's Easydeck aluminum modular floor formwork system is used. This user-friendly system is known for its quick assembly and easy stripping. The panels are modular, extremely manageable and suitable for floors up to 500 mm thick. They are available in standard lengths of 900 or 1,800 mm and standard widths of 450 or 900 mm. The Easydeck floor formwork is combined with the Construx PGD braces, which have a combined range of 1,480 to 5,500 mm and are robust, galvanized and fully compliant with EN-1065 standards. Even when fully extended, the braces can support an allowable load of 2T.

Since this is a drinking water reservoir, only biological oil is used. An efficient formwork plan was also drawn up for this project. By using braces at the corners, a 40-cm reinforced floor can be poured as standard; for thicker floors, additional H20 girders are used to prevent deflection. Construx also provided instructions to the workmen for the safe and correct use of the systems.
Construx has an extensive range of modular formwork systems for walls, floors, beams and columns. Besides three depots in Belgium, the company also has a rental depot in Maarsbergen. This allows Construx to respond quickly to a variety of concrete projects. The cooperation between Salverda Bouw and Construx is proceeding constructively. Both parties expect to complete the project successfully. With the new reservoir, Vitens can further strengthen its security of supply and the old water tower will be preserved as a landmark in the landscape.
