The concrete plants in Brussels and Merksem (Antwerp) obtained the CSC seal of approval this summer. This means that all links in the chain contribute to sustainability. Both concrete plants meet the strict economic, social and environmental requirements as well as the requirements regarding the origin of the raw materials and the production method.
The Concrete Sustainability Council (CSC) was founded in the bosom of the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD) with the aim of developing a certification system focused on corporate social responsibility, specifically for companies in the concrete, cement and aggregates sector. This system provides insight into the extent to which companies operate in an environmentally, socially and economically responsible manner. This international organization is supported by numerous NGOs and environmental movements.
Bart Daneels, CEO Holcim Belgium: "Committing to continuous improvement of our processes and minimizing our environmental impact are part of our priorities. With the CSC label, Holcim Belgium goes one step further."
Concrete is still the most widely used building material worldwide. This certification system shows that concrete can be used to build a sustainable, safe and comfortable world.
"Concrete is the building material of choice and is essential for the development of our society; we must therefore do everything possible to reduce its ecological footprint. With this certification, our customers can be confident that the concrete has been produced sustainably."
Both plants have CSC Silver certification, making them the first ready-mixed concrete production sites to be certified in the country's 2 largest cities.
