Stationary concrete mixing plants have a service life of decades, but on any given day they do need replacement. With a view to further strengthening its market position, the management of the German Union-Beton GmbH & Co. KG was looking for a powerful, flexible and future-proof solution to replace the 48-year-old plant in its Ludwigsburg production hall. SBM Mineral Processing, the Austrian market leader in innovative concrete mixing plants, delivered a total concept with the stationary TOWERMIX® 3000 + 1670 ST D9 450 V that perfectly meets the customer's requirements.
The management of Union Concrete chose an SBM TOWERMIX® 3000 + 1670 ST D9 450 V concrete mixing plant.
SBM Mineral Processing is not only a manufacturer and supplier of single machines, mobile and stationary processing and concrete mixing plants. As a total supplier, the company supports the customer through the entire process: from dismantling the old plant to commissioning the new system. In addition to the quality of the plants, this was the reason for Union-Beton GmBH & Co.KG to work with the specialist from Oberweis, Austria. After all, the new concrete mixing plant had to be installed on the foundations of the existing system, which still presented the necessary challenges.
"The installation also had to be future-proof, for example in terms of sustainability. The industry is evolving rapidly, so regulations and requirements are also changing rapidly. The requirements of the management of the concrete plant were therefore not amiss. Thanks to its more than forty years of experience in concrete technology, SBM Mineral Processing was able to offer a solution that met all the customer's requirements: the TOWERMIX® 3000 + 1670 ST D9 450 V," says Erwin Jansen of Jager Meng- en Recyclingtechniek from Harderwijk, SBM Mineral Processing's partner for the Netherlands and Belgium. "The concrete mixing plant is equipped with a high-pressure cleaning system and integrated video monitoring for the two 2-axis mixers type BHS DKXS, which deliver 3.00 m³ and 1.67 m³ hardened concrete per batch, good for a total capacity of up to 140 m³ per hour. An efficient heating and cooling system for material storage, mixing water and space heating in the compact tower - optimized by a winter-proof, closed insulation lining - ensures year-round sustainable operation." The compact design also allows the creation of two extra-wide lanes for truck mixers. In addition, a mobile hopper with hydraulically operated valve was installed.
Union Concrete's old concrete mixing plant needed replacement after 48 years of faithful service.
A storage system with eight chambers and a total buffer of 450 m³ guarantees the continuous supply of raw materials. Thanks to the particularly steep walls, the room is completely emptied even with difficult flowing aggregates. The binder storage comprises 2x 60 tons per silo, at 4 silos total storage is 480 tons. Two binders for coating concrete production are dosed and weighed in a specific scale. Through a separate dosing and weighing system, up to six aggregates can be fed directly to the mixer. This extensive installation is necessary to allow Union Concrete to mix all the products in its range: plain concrete, fair-faced concrete, steel fiber concrete and concrete for road construction, as well as high-quality concrete, self-compacting and easily compacted concrete, filler materials and concrete for screeds. In terms of design and operation, the TOWERMIX® is perfectly tailored to these demanding tasks. An innovative microprocessor control system from Dorner Electronic precisely regulates all processes of the mixing plant.
Under the motto "Quality through experience," Union-Beton has been supplying high-quality products for many years. Quality and durability therefore run like a thread through the company's history. "The optimal combination of the various components makes SBM's TOWERMIX® concrete mixing plant a future-proof system for the production of high-quality concrete, and the hot-dip galvanized design of the entire supporting structure increases its durability," Jansen points out. "The accessibility of the plant was also an important aspect for the customer. Therefore, operators can go directly from production to the mixing room, and via a comfortable stair tower, all other service levels are quickly and easily accessible." With this installation, Union-Beton is already ready for today's and tomorrow's demands.
