The delivery program of Preco, renowned manufacturer of precast concrete elements, is not only characterized by a very wide variety. Even when there is a need for unusual and even complex forms during a utility project, clients can turn to Preco. This was demonstrated once again during the realization of the Betonhaven project in Hilversum.
At the site where concrete mortar was manufactured for 50 years, on the Zuiderloswal in Hilversum, a unique new construction project is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2022: three multi-tenant commercial buildings constructed in robust concrete with a combined area of over 6,200 m2. Building A (four floors) has 2,530 m2, Building B (three floors) 1,810 m2 and Building C (two floors) 1,934 m2. The complex, which when completed will house business units, offices and showrooms, is designed in loft architecture. A style that stands for lots of light, high spaces and an open character. For Hercuton, which is responsible for the structural realization of Betonhaven Hilversum, this is right up its alley. The company has built several office buildings with a similar character in the past.
From its state-of-the-art production facility at the Ecofactorij in Apeldoorn, Preco signed on behalf of Hercuton to supply a mixed package of precast concrete elements. "We engineered, produced and delivered 157 columns, more than 200 beams, more than 4,000 square meters of walls and more than 4,000 square meters of hollow-core slab floors to the project site in Hilversum," project manager Sven Janssen looks back on the, in his own words, special project on behalf of Preco. "We have demonstrated once again with this project that we can offer a wide range of solutions in precast. Moreover, within our company everything is available when elements are requested that in terms of design would not look out of place as a work of art in the Vondelpark, for example. This project is a fine example of that. For example, sloping columns were used within Building A, as well as 15-meter-long columns equipped with sometimes as many as fifteen ridges. Needless to say that the necessary traditional carpentry was required to get everything in the right place. But we succeeded in that too. We have the knowledge, people and resources for it."
Now that the work for Preco in Hilversum has been completed, Janssen looks back with great satisfaction. Both on the performance delivered and on the cooperation with Hercuton, one of Preco's regular construction partners. "Because of its complexity, this project was not an everyday job for either of us, but rather a huge challenge," Janssen said. "Cooperation, craftsmanship and perseverance were decisive in completing this special assignment. An expression of pride is therefore in order for all the professionals from Preco and Hercuton who made this project a success."
