Anyone who regularly visits the Moerdijk port and industrial area cannot fail to notice the presence of Preco. As a specialist in precast concrete elements, the company is a much sought-after supplier here for the construction of distribution centers and warehouses. For example, Preco previously supplied the concrete elements for DSV's prestigious project (the largest distribution center in the Benelux). Now, commissioned by construction company Van de Heijden, it is providing the concrete elements for a sizeable warehouse and shipping center on the adjacent lot.
Stefan Jongewaard, head of project management at Preco, says this project requires significant production. “We are supplying 5,500 square meters of washed-out insulation walls for the facade, a complete fire wall of over 6,700 square meters, roof panels of four light cores and 114 sets of loading docks. In addition, we are supplying 9,000 square meters of mezzanine hollow core slab floor and another 4,000 square meters of hollow core slabs for the offices. In total, we are talking about tens of thousands of square meters of precast concrete. This is daily business for us, however, as we supply projects of similar size throughout the Netherlands, from high-rise buildings to distribution centers.”

Preco distinguishes itself in the market by having all facets of precast concrete production in-house. The company has its own factory, concrete plant and reinforcement plant. This makes it the only concrete producer in the Netherlands that can produce completely independently.
Preco's product portfolio is broad and includes precast walls, columns, beams and dock systems. “We make two types of dock systems, both developed to optimize logistics flow and meet the high demands of modern warehouses.” In addition, Preco also supplies architectural concrete. A valuable addition to enhance the appearance of a building. “Last March we applied polished concrete for the first time at The Bridge in Amsterdam,” says Jongewaard. “The result is a mirror-smooth surface that is barely distinguishable from natural stone. For us a nice step in providing concrete with not only functional but also aesthetic value.”

Sustainability is high on the agenda at Preco. The company is constantly working on reducing CO2 emissions and on more efficient production methods. In the concrete plant, for example, residual concrete is reused, water is recirculated and the production processes are designed to minimize material losses. Alternative binding agents, such as cement substitutes, are also used to further reduce the environmental impact of concrete.
“We want to contribute to a construction industry that makes progress not only in efficiency and quality, but also in sustainability,” Jongewaard emphasizes. “That is why we are constantly looking at innovations that help us extend the life of buildings while reducing the footprint. For example, our 3,300 solar panels generate enough energy to power two hundred households in Apeldoorn.”
With a team of 180 enthusiastic professionals, the company is known for its no-nonsense approach: listening, thinking along and rolling up its sleeves immediately. Preco literally takes all the worry out of customers' hands by seamlessly coordinating engineering, production, delivery and assembly.
