Organized annually in turn in Belgium and Luxembourg, the Steel Construction Competition was in its 21st edition. Participation in the 2020 Steel Construction Competition was open to construction projects on Belgian soil realized entirely or partially in steel between June 2018 and the end of May 2020. Projects outside Belgium were also eligible provided that a major party involved in the project had its headquarters in Belgium.
There were 66 projects participating in this edition. The jury met on January 12, 2021 at the renovated paper mill Quartier Papier in Zaventem and awarded 4 projects in the different categories :
- Non-residential building : HQ Cordeel in Temse
- Residential : CART in Ham
- Specific elements in steel : A Giant Sculpture in Kasterlee
- Industrial buildings : Parking building IMEC/KUL in Leuven
- Special mention: company building Goddeeris in Roeselare
The jury consisted of :

- Patrick Maes, Smulders;

For several years, the Steel Construction Competition has also included a public award. This puts all submitted projects even more in the spotlight. For the 2020 edition, this award went digital and to social media for the first time. The online voting was a great success: more than 2,700 people viewed the project files and cast their vote.
