Fixing materials for the Salmon Harbor Tower

The Salmon Harbor Tower reached its highest point in October this year: 215 meters. This makes it now officially the tallest residential tower in the Benelux. As a renowned supplier for steel construction and other industries, Kyocera-Senco supplied Voortman Steel Construction with all fasteners for the various steel structures in the project. Kyocera-Senco Construction's far-reaching Value Added Services came in handy at over 200 meters high.

The De Zalmhaven project is located in the Scheepvaartkwartier right on the Meuse River and includes three residential towers, two of which are 70 meters high each and culminating in the 215-meter-high Zalmhaven I. A total of 485 homes will be built in the three towers, as well as a parking garage, offices, commercial spaces, a roof garden and a restaurant on the upper floors. Voortman Steel Construction was commissioned by main contractor BAM Major Projects to provide the steel structures for the glass canopies and canopies, with the icing on the cake being the complete steel structure for the tower's topping, including the steel plate concrete floors.

Due to the narrower structure, the elevation could not be realized within the hoist shed and the roof was opened at a height of about 190 meters.

Lifting shed

The beauty of this project and unique by Dutch standards is that the tower was built using a hoist shed, Ronald Grooters of Voortman Steel Construction reflects. "Think of it as a glorified shed that moves with you upward, making it look like you're building at ground level. You don't notice anything about the height." That was a little different the moment the shed's roof was opened at about 190 feet. "Due to the narrower structure, the elevation could not be realized within the hoist shed. In cooperation with Civil Engineering deBoer, we devised an auger construction to allow the steel structure for the final floors, including the mast."

In the area of fasteners, Kyocera-Senco customers are completely unburdened.

Steel crates

Kyocera-Senco-Construction has been a regular supplier to Voortman Steel Construction in terms of fasteners for many years. "The days of sending full packages of fasteners to the construction site are long gone," says Tonny van Dooren of Kyocera-Senco-Construction. "Voortman got all the materials delivered on a silver platter, just-in-time and nicely sorted per building section and phase in steel crates. It ranged from bolts (M 16-M 36) to washers, nuts and anchor sets, either fully customized or not. This far-reaching Value Addes Services eliminates the need for any on-site handling of fasteners."

In addition to delivering in exactly the right quantities, Kyocera-Senco is able to combine items into pouches/boxes (kitting). If required, it also supplies fully assembled hook anchor sets or custom threaded ends. "We are happy to take over such time-consuming operations for our customers," says Van Dooren. "Delivering in steel crates, as we did for the Salmon Harbor Tower, saves substantially on packaging materials. The crates are, of course, returned and refilled for the next project. Such a logistical process is rightly unique in the world of fasteners. It is also appreciated by our customers, whom we completely relieve in the area of fasteners."
