Ecocem, European pioneer and market leader in low CO₂ cement technology, today announced a €170 million investment in four new ACT cement production lines in France. This investment builds on the earlier €50 million already invested in the Dunkirk plant.
With support from the French Ministry of Economy and Finance as well as the Ministry of Industry, the scaling-up of this new low-CO2 cement technology is being accelerated. The extensions will take place in Fos-sur-Mer and Dunkirk and will be completed between 2028 and 2030. From then on, 1.9 million tons of ACT cement will find its way to construction every year. This will save 800,000 tons of CO₂ emissions each year and create 60 sustainable jobs.
ACT (Accelerated Cement Technology) is the result of over a decade of research and reduces the carbon footprint of cement by as much as 70% compared to traditional cements. The technology has already been applied in major infrastructure and residential projects in France and other European countries including the Netherlands.
According to Conor O'Riain, Managing Director of Ecocem, France is showing leadership by actively partnering with innovative industries. "This is exactly the kind of government involvement needed in Europe to make a real impact. It's not about subsidies, it's about smart collaboration and, above all, vision."
