TloKB gives final status to KiK
KOMO Instrument Quality Assurance (KiK) has been definitively admitted as an instrument provider under the Building Quality Assurance Act (Wkb) on June 9, 2022! The Admission Organization Quality Assurance Construction (TloKB) thus indicates that the KiK instrument meets the criteria according to the Assessment Framework Wkb instrument in all respects. The KiK instrument is included in the Register of Quality Assurance Instruments. This also gives the KiK quality assurance instruments an official status. After years of preparation, we are pleased with the status obtained.
With the Wkb, the government is encouraging an improvement in the construction quality of buildings by reducing construction defects and faults. This strengthens the position of the client. From the expected effective date of January 1, 2023, the Wkb obliges building projects requiring a permit for consequence class 1 to make use of a permitted instrument such as KiK and to engage a quality assurance agency.
KiK is a leading tool for the Wkb. KiK offers specific advantages. This is because the instrument was developed in close consultation with, among others, developers, prescribers, construction companies and quality assurance agencies. With KiK, the sector complies with all laws and regulations in construction and infrastructure as well as with private quality requirements. KiK can be used for all types of buildings, both those requiring permits and those not. In principle, the instrument is suitable for all consequence classes.
Ton Jans, Director KiK-KOMO explains what the admission means for KiK quality assurance companies: "The admission of the KiK instrument means that quality assurance companies licensed with KiK also have official status. They can formally perform quality assurance projects for consequence class 1 from the Wkb start date.
Currently, there are 11 quality assurance companies licensed with KiK. They are already working in pilot projects to prepare for the Wkb together with the chain. In total, about 75 qualified employees are available for quality assurance at those quality assurance companies. We expect a substantial increase in the number of KiK quality assurance personnel once the final effective date of the Wkb is known."
The KiK tool is the software application specifically designed for the Wkb. Its unique feature is that it structures the probability of a risk occurring during a construction process, the extent of that risk and the consequences. Then the tool lays the foundation for efficient assurance. The KiK tool strengthens the opportunity to increase uniformity in quality assurance for construction and infra. With the KiK tool, construction parties can make the mandatory risk analysis for construction projects. In the assurance plan, the KiK tool makes visible what to do to manage these risks.
A big step forward for quality assurance companies, architects and builders, who can all work with KiK to achieve the goal of the Wkb (better building quality within legal frameworks) together. They do this by preparing the legally required reports for quality assurance officers and contractors in one application.
The versatility in the use of the KiK tool makes it suitable for different purposes and parties. That's why we make the tool available for broad application throughout the construction column. The developer, the architect and the builder can use it efficiently. This creates an integral building file that ultimately allows the KiK quality assurance officer to perform his work efficiently and effectively. The KiK tool can already be used in Wkb pilot projects. Because of the amount of data the KiK tool can hold, the tool also forms the basis for building management.
