Melopee, a galvanized poem

Zinkinfo cordially invites you on Wednesday, May 8, 2019 for a site visit to the Melopee Primary School and Daycare construction project on the Oude Dokken in Ghent. 

The city building Melopee on the Oude Dokken in Ghent refers to the poem of the same name by Antwerp poet Paul Van Ostaijen. Describing the journey of two friends in a canoe, the word itself also means sound poem and ties in with the musical pedagogy of elementary school. The new building, a project of XDGA, study firms Ney & Partners and Boydens, includes a day care center, an after-school child care center, a neighborhood sports hall and De Wonderfluit elementary school. A striking feature of this project is the green outdoor room, a grid of hot-dip galvanized steel where lush greenery will soon find its way. The method of galvanization was done in close consultation between XDGA and metal fabricator Dugardein-De Sutter and the galvanization plant involved. This is a textbook example of the philosophy behind ZEKER ZINK. Crucial to this is the dialogue between specifier, contractor and galvanizer as an instrument to guarantee certainty of quality and thus meet the cherished expectations.

The various target groups ZIB has in mind for this include: architects, engineers, steel builders, contractors and governments.
