Professionals increasingly want flexible learning. Work and training are combined, as are practice and theory. Online learning fits in well with this: participants set their own pace and can learn when it suits them. The Concrete Association is responding to this with a growing range of online courses. Five online courses are currently available, which together provide a broad picture of the basics and applications of concrete. The offerings will continue to expand in the coming years. Below is an overview of the current online courses.
In addition to the classic, physical course, the Concrete Association has also been offering the Basic Concrete Knowledge General Online (BBA Online) course since 2020. This online variant contains the same content as the physical course and is composed of twelve clearly arranged online sections. The participant can go through each section independently and take self-tests in between to check the knowledge gained. In addition, a mock exam is available and the participant receives the official textbook. Both the physical BBA and BBA Online prepare for the same BBA exam. This exam gives access to the follow-up course Concrete in the Lab and eventually leads to the diploma Concrete Lab Technician BV.

The Concrete Association was regularly asked if a less comprehensive version of the BBA was available. Since September 2025, that has been the case with the Begin with Concrete course. This course consists of the first five sections of BBA Online and focuses on the key fundamentals of concrete as a building material. Topics such as properties and applications of concrete, binders and aggregates are covered in detail. Also in this course, participants take self-tests, but there is no final exam. Upon successful completion of all sections, participants will receive a Certificate of Participation.

Through the Concrete Association website, it is possible to learn about the first course section of BBA Online and Begin with Concrete for free. This first section is the same for both courses and gives a good idea of the format and content.
There is also a need for concrete knowledge in other languages. As a first step, the Concrete Association has translated Begin with Concrete into English under the title A Concrete Start. The course contains the same online components and self-tests as the Dutch version, but offers two extras. In the teaching modules, important technical terms are also translated into Dutch. In addition, flashcards allow participants to actively practice English and Dutch terminology, which is especially useful in an international work environment.

Although not common now, it may happen in the future that after Beginning with Concrete, someone may still want to progress to the full pathway to become a concrete lab technician. For these participants, Further with Concrete has been developed. In this course, they take the remaining seven sections of BBA Online, receive the textbook and can take the official BBA exam. This exam is identical to the exam associated with the physical and online BBA.
Since 2021, the Concrete Association also offers an online version of the entry-level course Introduction to Concrete Maintenance and Repair. The physical course consists of two afternoons; in the online version, the content is divided into eight sections. The course focuses mainly on damage mechanisms, repair methods and repair materials.
As with Basic Concrete General Online and Begin with Concrete, the website allows you to take a free look at the first course section of this course.
