The National Steel Award has been in existence since 1971 and is presented biennially by Bouwen met Staal. Entries for the 2026 edition must be projects—new construction, remodeling, or renovation—in the Netherlands or abroad that are constructed entirely or partially of steel. For international projects, at least two Dutch project partners must be involved. The projects must have been completed or put into use in 2025 or 2024.
Ten steel construction projects have been nominated for the 2026 National Steel Award. The expert jury, chaired by Thijs Asselbergs (Thijs Asselbergs Architectuurcentrale), selected the nominees from a total of 51 entries. The submitted projects are competing in one of four categories: non-residential construction, industrial construction, residential construction, and distinctive steel building components.
In each category, the following projects have been nominated for the 2026 National Steel Award (the architect, structural engineer, and steel contractor directly involved in each project are listed)

The nominees are:
Nonresidential Construction:
Industrial construction:
Housing:
Characteristic steel building components:

Of the projects submitted, about 18 also entered the competition for the 2026 National Steel Reuse Award. This cross-category award is intended for projects that have utilized the potential for (future) reuse of steel and steel structures in an inspiring and replicable way.
