Sustainability, concrete and the energy transition

The energy transition sounds abstract but is actually very close. As an example close to home, perhaps the roof equipped with solar panels. A little further away might be wind turbines. But what is the relationship between the energy transition and the concrete? Thursday, Nov. 12, will be in the theme of that relationship. We see that on the energy generation side, concrete plays a significant role, but also within energy distribution and on the consumer side.

The following topics will be discussed during the Concrete Event in the area of energy transition:

The impact of electrification on the road network.

If we switch en masse to electric cars, with their heavy battery packs, our asphalt roads will wear out faster and require more maintenance. Concrete then has a big advantage. And because we want to do it right the first time, we are immediately incorporating provisions for inductive charging and dynamic lineation in that new concrete pavement. Jeroen de Vrieze of the Betonhuis talks about this in his break-out session.

Foundations for wind turbines

Wind turbines; we literally can't ignore them anymore. Axel Jacobs talks about the latest trends and challenges. At the Concrete Event, Axel will provide a breakout session on the application of advanced design methods and other developments to reduce the environmental impact of concrete structures.

Multi-purpose roofs

The roof of our buildings, what do we do with it? Will it become a power plant or will it soon be used to grow our food and allow us to recreate closer to home? The National Roofing Plan explains.

Making cement with electricity

As icing on the cake, the cement plant of the future; clean, uses electricity as an energy source and has the ability to recycle much of the waste. Anja Buchwald will talk about this.

How do we contribute to a better world?

The speakers will give inspiring speeches and show how they are doing their part to make the world a better place. Perhaps some of the steps are easy to take within your own field of work. Some steps might need some help and inspiration from the speakers. Feel free to ask questions, share your knowledge and participate!
