On Thursday, May 16, 2019, NEN will host an information afternoon on the restructuring of European standardization in the steel sector. During this information afternoon, we will discuss the reason and purpose of the restructuring of European standardization in the steel sector.
After years of discussion about the continued existence of ECISS (European Committee for Iron and Steel Standardization), it was decided to bring ECISS and twelve Technical Committees under a newly created CEN/TC 459 'ECISS - European Committee for Iron and Steel Standardization'. This new CEN/TC 459 has established twelve Subcommittees. These are the former Technical Committees of ECISS.
Target restructuring in Europe
In short, it involves better transparency of the European standards development process and a much tighter deadline for the development of European standards. CEN has a well-organized bureau and various tools to guide and monitor the three-year trajectory of European standards development.
Target restructuring in the Dutch Steel Sector
In the past, many companies have actively contributed to the development of various European standards. This is done through the input of members in a national standards committee. At NEN, many national standards committees have been established for various topics in the varied field of steel. In recent years, activity decreased for the development of European standards. NEN has decided to merge all national committees into one new national standards committee 'Steel - production and application' and thereby bring new enthusiasm, focus and mutual commitment to the topics of the twelve former ECISS Technical Committees.
Forecast
With this new approach, NEN expects to achieve stronger support, greater involvement, more exchange of knowledge (on content and process) and a clearer vision. More EN influence can also be exerted on the content of European standards for the steel sector.
For whom.
This first steel mesh afternoon is organized by NEN for all people who use European standards in the steel sector. It involves the whole chain from producer to trader for sheet piling and automotive sectors, among others.
