The nominees for the 2020 Dutch Sustainable Building Awards have been announced

The nominees for the Dutch Sustainable Building Awards 2020 have been announced. Who will win the Golden Frog, the Circular Ring and the public award on February 6 during the Duurzaam Gebouwd Congres in Assen?

These awards are presented to organizations that distinguish themselves in the field of sustainability. The independent jury selected the contenders within two categories: most sustainable project and most sustainable client. During the Sustainable Built Congress on February 6, 2020 in Assen, the winners will be announced by category announced and then the audience award will also be presented (one of six nominees).

The nominees

In alphabetical order, below are the nominees by category with a brief explanation from the judges' report.

Most sustainable project, the Golden Frog

• Atlas Building, TU Eindhoven
  The renovation of the Atlas Building shows that renovation pays off. The jury especially appreciates that a number of innovations came from within the TU itself, such as the lighting plan. Users have been intensively involved in the project, making it a pleasant building to be in.
• Integral Child Center Magenta, Delden
  As early as the call for tenders, an innovation partner was sought who is breaking new ground. The project has many circular elements such as detachability and natural materials. The scalability criterion scores high, as does the involvement of students in this project.
• Triodos Bank, The Reehorst
  The new construction project in Driebergen is inspiring because all aspects of sustainability have been included. Think of circular materials, detachability, ecology, energy and climate resistance. Much has also been invested in the communication about the project.

Most sustainable client, the Circular Ring

• Cooperative BSH 20 E U.A - CiWoCo Buiksloterham
  In this living lab district for circular building in Amsterdam-North, there is an experimental circular living-working complex that opts for detachability and modularity. The developer is directly involved in the start-up phase of the project. This collective commissioning is complex, making them an example for others.
• Municipality of Woerden - Woerden town hall
  The municipality was very creative with their budget; the operating burden was not allowed to grow. According to the jury, that is precisely what is often the biggest quest. In that, this project is unique and an example for other municipalities. Woerden has dared to renovate its own housing in a special, sustainable way.
• STIP Hilversum - Hilversum Star School
  The jury praised the attention to circularity; reuse was of great importance in this project, as was the use of wood. The client looked outside the box. They dared to involve many parties in their quest for a sustainable and healthy building, such as parents, children, the neighborhood and suppliers.

Criteria

The jury nominated these parties because of the scalability of the projects and measures, and the integrated approach. This means that projects not only distinguish themselves with energy measures, but also pay attention to the environmental impact of applied building materials and health aspects. Moreover, the involvement of residents, users or other stakeholders in the project is an important focus of these awards.

Dutch Sustainable Building Awards

The Dutch Sustainable Building Awards are an initiative of the Sustainable Building Awards Foundation, in which abcnova, W/E Advisors, FSC Netherlands and Duurzaam Gebouwd have joined forces and aims to promote sustainability in the built environment.
