Remco van Osch, non-destructive concrete testing specialist in the Materials Research and Consulting Department:

"We often examine concrete structures using instruments and inspection equipment. The goal is to extract as much information as possible from the structure. It is a role that I was assigned out of interest several years ago and in which I can develop perfectly. I get all kinds of complex issues regarding measurement requests on my plate."

About working at Nebest, Van Osch says, "I feel like an entrepreneur in paid employment. I have a lot of freedom and if I have a good idea or see opportunities for a new product or service, it is often honored. Furthermore, Nebest is a very pleasant employer. Apart from the freedom, you also get the chance to develop yourself. When I left school 15 years ago and started at Nebest, I spent a lot of time outdoors on constructions, bridges and viaducts. I learned a lot from that. That's also the plus for starters. If you are open to it, you learn so quickly and so much here, you can only benefit from that later."

Van Osch says he has also benefited from his college degree in civil engineering in concrete structures. "That direction fits perfectly with what we do. Especially when inspecting and assessing concrete structures, it is useful to know something about structural engineering."

At Nebest, you can combine both the practical and the theoretical.

Jeremy Jonkers, concrete inspector in the Department of Civil Engineering:

"The reason I chose Nebest is mainly because of its versatility and flexibility. You are busy outside a lot with your head, but also with your hands. It often happens that we have to additionally cut something open or drill cores for sampling in the lab." So Jonkers is on the road a lot and sees that as an advantage. "You get to a lot of different places around the country. Doesn't take away the fact that it's also quite nice to work on a report in the office every now and then. That makes my job very versatile."

Jonkers has a college degree in structural engineering. "Before that, I completed a more practical MBO course in ship interior design," he says. "I also worked in the industry for some time, but the work in shipbuilding was disappointing to me. It wasn't just making beautiful things, but mainly a lot of dust hopping. So I started looking further and chose to study architecture. That led to a position at Nebest where I can combine both the practical and the theoretical. You can really go in all directions here, and Nebest offers plenty of opportunities and challenges for the future."

No day is the same at Nebest and the combination between working out reports inside and inspecting in the field outside is really wonderful.

Beckie Leenders, civil works inspector in the Inspection, Management and Consulting Department:

After studying civil engineering in college, Leenders joined Nebest. Like Jonkers, she praises the versatility. "No day is the same here and the combination of working out reports inside and inspecting in the field outside is really wonderful. You get to beautiful places you would never get to otherwise. The variety from very modern structures to pre-war artworks also makes the work challenging and versatile."

Within Nebest, Leenders says there are lots of opportunities for advancement. "If you have the ambition, you don't necessarily have to stay in the same department. There really are a lot of opportunities up for grabs here. That's what makes it fun. Just like the industry we work in, which is very dynamic and subject to change, especially with regard to future challenges." Leenders also praises the possibilities of hybrid working. "I live quite far from the office and usually work from home one day a week. That freedom is there. Although I also enjoy being in the office to spar and collaborate with my colleagues."
