'There are always optimizations to consider'

Sometimes you make a decision you think "If only we had taken it ten years earlier. The merger between Dogan Concrete Steel and MVM Concrete Steel is one of those. "Together we can handle any rebar project. Of course, in the process we also remain loyal to our old contractors. We don't forget where we came from."

Speaking is Martin van der Meijden Jr, director/owner of MVM Betonstaal. In 2020, his company joined forces with Dogan Betonstaal. After all, the firms already worked together very regularly and always to complete satisfaction. "It was the best choice for both parties," he says. Meanwhile, leading works shine on the joint reference list, including Nieuwe Sluis Terneuzen, Kademuur Amaliahaven in Rotterdam and Comol5 RijnlandRoute, each accounting for 20,000 tons of reinforcing steel and more. All projects were supplied from the company's own plant in Raamsdonksveer.

Driving force

Dogan Concrete Steel was founded in 2004 by Metin Dogan. The company started small and steadily grew into a household name in the reinforcement world with now almost 200 braiders and multiple specialties. Van der Meijden: "Dogan was one of the largest braiding companies in the Benelux. Thanks to the cooperation between MVM and Dogan, we are among the few parties in the Benelux that have so many braiders of their own and therefore have everything under their own control." Industrial works, residential construction projects and infrastructure projects alternate and that in the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany and France. Dogan Betonstaal now has almost twenty years of experience in the processing of reinforcing steel and is still growing.

Coming up with optimizations

Cooperation is an important item for both Dogan Reinforcing Steel and MVM Reinforcing Steel. The earlier the specialists can get to the table with their clients, the better, easier and safer they can execute the projects. "There are always optimizations to come up with," Van der Meijden explains. "Just think about the shape of the reinforcement, the lengths and the weight. We can almost always make major strokes in the planning as well. Usually we can shorten the lead time. With good planning, we deliver exactly the desired quality without anyone having to tiptoe around it."

Safety from home

Both boards realize that the job of braider is tough. As much as the crane is used whenever possible, braiders do a lot of physical work. In the process, the work continues in all weathers. Yet the professionals are loyal to their firm. Proof of this is provided by the length of service, most of which exceeds ten years. Van der Meijden can think of a few reasons for this. "We watch over the safety of our people from the moment they leave home. They have safe tools, professional work clothes and a good salary that is deposited on time. On projects further from home, we guarantee comfortable housing." Safety information is also addressed. "Instructions are translated into all languages spoken on the construction site."
