BSI Group, founder of leading standards, awarded BESIX the ISO 19650-2:2018 certification, the world's first international standard for Building Information Modeling (BIM).
The BIM approach, which has become indispensable in the construction industry, involves creating a virtual model of the structure to be erected. This significantly improves information management during its life cycle, from design and construction to operation and maintenance.
Since 2010, BESIX has been a forerunner in the use of BIM, particularly for large projects such as skyscrapers and complex buildings, locks and port terminals, road and rail infrastructure, stadiums and environmental projects. These include the Mohammed VI Tower in Morocco, the world's largest waste-to-energy plant in the United Arab Emirates, the Al Janoub stadium in Qatar, the headquarters of BNP Paribas Fortis in Belgium and the Princess Beatrix Lock, the largest inland navigation lock in the Netherlands.
Kristof Vandenbogaerde, BIM Manager: "The ISO certification guarantees our clients that BESIX carries out works in accordance with the most demanding BIM standards. In 2017, BESIX was already one of the very first European construction companies to receive the BIM Level 2 certification by meeting the criteria of the PAS 1192-2 standard. We are very proud to remain at the forefront of this field."
François Lederer, Head of BIM, Digital & Sustainable solutions: "The granting of the certificate to our Group follows the investments in digital skills that BESIX has pioneered over the past decade. It is also a tribute to the work done by our BIM experts over these years, especially under the leadership of Juan Nolet and François Snoeck, who were the driving force behind this certification."
According to the BSI Group, "ISO 19650 is an international standard for the management of information across the life cycle of a building, using Building Information Modeling (BIM)," and in this regard is applicable to companies considered "Tier 1 Lead Design & Lead Contractor."
The certification, which follows an audit of all procedures implemented at BESIX and BESIX's engineering department, covers "all contracting activities performed, controlled or managed by BESIX's engineering department."
