Riwal AWPs, rental and sales specialist of aerial work platforms and telehandlers, delivered machines to nursing homes that were closed to visitors so that relatives could visit their loved ones.
On March 18, 2020, the government decided to close all nursing homes to visitors to prevent the spread of the coronavirus. In response, Riwal launched the project 'waving to family'. Using various aerial platforms, Riwal helped more than 250 people in 12 different nursing homes in the Netherlands see and talk to their loved ones at height.
To enable the visits, a Riwal employee first goes to the site to perform a risk analysis so that all safety and corona measures can be met during the visit. A scissor or telescopic boom lift with a work basket wider than 2.5 meters ensures that a Riwal employee, who operates the machine, and the visitor maintain the proper prescribed social distance.
'It's a great example of putting social responsibility into practice. We like the fact that we can provide some relief at this time and have been approached by several nursing homes. We would like to help as many people as possible, but only if it is within our means, where we can guarantee the safety of everyone involved. That is our highest priority', says Glenn Verburg, Managing Director.
