On March 15, Kiwa awarded the CSC bronze sustainability certificate to Netterden Zand en Grind. This makes Netterden Zand en Grind one of the leaders in the sustainable extraction of sand and gravel. The certification fits within the pillars of the company: extracting raw materials in a sustainable manner with respect for the environment and with an open eye for relevant social interests.
"The concrete sector is becoming more and more sustainable. Not only the producing companies, but also the supplying industry. CSC is proof that the concrete sector is sustainable and on its way to meet the climate goals," said Remco Kerkhoven, of CSC-NL and Betonhuis, knowledge center and the expert on sustainable construction with concrete. Johan Heutinck, Manager of Quality, Occupational Health and Safety, Environment and Permits at Netterden adds, "This certificate is a nice recognition of what we have already achieved in the field of sustainable extraction of sand and gravel and the related nature development, because for us that is an essential part of this process. We will not dwell on this for long, however, as our focus in the coming period will be on our pursuit of energy neutrality and taking further steps in our CSR processes."
CSC for sustainable extraction and production
The CSC certificate makes sustainability demonstrable and is proof of this for buyers of concrete. For both nationally operating companies and regional players, it is important to implement measures to produce more sustainably. As an example, the CSC certificate is valued with an origin classification level (tier level) of 1 in BREEAM.
CSC manual 2.0
The Concrete Sustainability Council has defined the requirements and conditions for CSC certification in the Sustainable Concrete Manual. Since January 1, 2019, this manual has been updated to a 2.0 version. Some requirements have been tightened and with this CSC shows that sustainable developments are in line with new insights and changes within circular and sustainable construction.
International and for the entire concrete chain
The certificate has international status. There are four levels: bronze, silver, gold and platinum (for suppliers bronze and silver). The actual certification is carried out exclusively by CSC member and independent certifying bodies such as Kiwa. For more information on CSC certification, see www.csc-nl.nl.
