Registration for the 44 edition of the Riwal Hoogwerkers Halve Marathon is open. On Saturday, March 14, 2020, runners can start the half marathon and the 10 and 5 kilometers at the Fortius athletics hall in Dordrecht. There are also runs for youth on the track. A new part of the event is a company run on the 10 and 5 kilometers.
The half marathon takes runners along a beautiful course along the Wantij and through the Dordtse Biesbosch. Registration is possible via www.inschrijven.nl. A medal will be available at the finish line for everyone, both youth and adults.
Last year, Fortius, the organizer of the event, received support for the first time from Riwal, rental and sales specialist of aerial work platforms, telehandlers and forklifts. Maarten Vogelezang, chairman of the organizing team: "The cooperation provides us with a lot. Besides sponsorship, Riwal thinks along with us to make the event even more attractive. The number of participants already increased last year by over 130 runners, bringing the total number of participants to over 900. In 2020, we will introduce a company run."
Groups of a minimum of three and a maximum of five runners can participate in the company run on the 5 and 10 kilometers. The results will be determined based on the three fastest times of the company team. The fastest team may receive a large challenge cup. Teams of companies that want to participate can register by sending an email to riwalhalvemarathon@gmail.com. Half of the entry fee for companies (150 euros) will be donated to Pink Ribbon for breast research, the charity to which Riwal committed earlier this year. In addition, every runner will donate 1 euro to Pink Ribbon via the entry fee of the regular runs at 5, 10 and 21km.
Glenn Verburg, General Director Riwal Benelux explains, "Last year this half marathon was a great success with the increase in the number of runners and a new course record for the men on the 21km and that despite the strong wind. New this year is the company run, with which we want to give companies an extra incentive to participate by donating part of the entry fee to Pink Ribbon. We also hope that it will be a great run again this year and that a large number of Riwal employees will participate in one of the running parts. The Riwal Hoogwerkers half marathon is an initiative of our Fit, Proud & Involved program with which we want to stimulate the sporting side of our employees and this initiative fits in perfectly with that!
Fortius also focuses on youth. In cooperation with the Sports Company of the municipality, a letter with flyer was delivered to all elementary school in Dordrecht for free participation in the youth runs on the track. Exercise is healthy and this way the youth can get acquainted with this sport in a pleasant way.
The Riwal Hoogwerkers Half Marathon is part of the Toyota Schouten Great Rivers Running Circuit with runs in Dordrecht and the Alblasserwaard region.
More information about all the runs is at www.fortiusdrechtsteden.nl/contest and events and under calendar.
