Ecocem, one of Europe's top producers of low-CO2 cement, has received a European Technical Assessment (ETA) from European authorities for its ACT cement, which emits significantly less CO2. The ETA - the basis for CE marking - is an important step for the company, as it allows it to offer its ACT cement within the entire European market. Director Donal O'Riain stresses the importance of this development for the cement and concrete industry, as it paves the way for a reduction in emissions in line with the goals of the Paris Climate Agreement.
The innovative ACT technology, the result of ten years of research, can reduce CO2 emissions by 70% compared to traditional cement mixtures. The company expects to serve its first European customers in 2024 and is targeting full commercialization of ACT by 2026. The timing is in line with the European ambition expressed this week to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 90% by 2040. Ecocem is expanding its operations, with new production facilities in France and plans for a plant on the U.S. West Coast, to accelerate the delivery of this breakthrough ACT cement technology.
