This fall, Liemar welcomed two interns, each of whom is working on a current issue within the company. Gaven Mikkers is investigating how AI can be used to give users faster access to information about the Liemar software. Meve van Straaten is focusing on the factors that influence steel construction companies’ choice of software and how bocad can align with those needs.
Gaven Mikkers is enrolled in the MBO-4 Software Development program at Ter AA in Helmond. During his internship, he is working on an AI application that will allow users to ask questions about how Liemar works.
The idea is that users will no longer have to search through the software manual themselves. They can ask a practical question, after which the application retrieves the relevant information from the manual and formulates an answer based on that information.
An important consideration in this regard is information security. The application is granted access only to the designated documentation and must ultimately operate within a secure environment. During his internship, Gaven initially focused on the technology behind this application.
Meve van Straaten is in her third and final year of the bachelor's program in Entrepreneurship and Business Innovation at Tilburg University.
Her research focuses on determining which factors are important to steel construction companies when selecting software and how Liemar can align with those needs using bocad. To this end, Meve is speaking with bocad users and companies that use competing software, among others. She is also involving the marketing department at Schuller & Company, the supplier of bocad, and other marketing professionals in her research.
What are companies’ needs when they are evaluating software? What factors and features influence their final decision? And does the way bocad is presented sufficiently align with those considerations? The insights from the study should help Liemar position bocad more effectively in the market.
Through both internships, Liemar links the development of young talent to concrete real-world challenges: from the application of AI in software support to the positioning of specialized software for steel construction.
