The nominees for the first-ever Techni-Mat Awards are known. Three contenders were retained for both the Sustainability Award and the Technical Award. The Techni-Mat Awards will be presented on Wednesday evening, March 25, in cooperation with Louwers Media Group.
All Techni-Mat 2020 exhibitors were allowed to submit a dossier for a chance to win an award. A total of 26 competitive dossiers were collected for both awards combined. An independent jury narrowed that number down to three nominees per category after careful consideration. Below are the nominees in no particular order.
SediSubstrator L and SediPipe L - Riopro
Protecting our surface water and infiltration system from the discharge of contaminated stormwater is a major concern. The SediPipe L and SediSubstrator L from Riopro are used to remove dissolved and undissolved constituents such as polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) and oil from stormwater. The SediSubstrator combines the high cleaning efficiency of the SediPipe L, but with a substrate filter that also filters dissolved constituents from the water.
CERO paving - STRADUS
CERO paving - based on geopolymer - from STRADUS is a sustainable alternative to working with conventional concrete products. With CO2 emissions that are up to 70 % lower than those of concrete products based on conventional concrete and thanks to the longevity and circular properties of geopolymer concrete, the product scores highly in terms of sustainability. The decorative coating of CERO products still consists of cementitious concrete. Thus, the familiar appearance and texture remain untouched.
Infiltration tunnels - Pluvio
The Pluvio system succeeds in greatly reducing the installation and operating cost of underground rainwater harvesting. Depending on the desired storage capacity and parameters, the required amount of infiltration tunnels are determined. The tunnel elements allow both infiltration and storage of rainwater, are easily accessible for inspection and maintenance, and are made of 100 % recycled ABS. Thanks to their light weight, the elements are easy to install.
Fiberglass-reinforced composite bridge - CGK Group
Fiberglass-reinforced composite bridges for bicyclists and pedestrians are becoming increasingly popular. The bridges are up to five times lighter than concrete and steel and have a defined service life of 100 years, with a 50-year warranty. For production, CGK Group relies on the globally patented InfraCore® technology from Dutch company FiberCore®. In a nutshell, large white mats of coarsely woven glass wires are used in a special way as reinforcement in a mold that is vacuum drawn.
Wavin StormHarvester
Wavin StormHarvester is a new, intelligent underground rainwater harvesting system that takes into account the weather forecast. It uses current meteorological data and various weather prediction models. Only when heavy rainfall is expected will the Q-bic plus reservoir be emptied. Thus, maximum rainwater is available for infiltration or reuse in a building. The Wavin Stormharvester is a combination of the Wavin infiltration technology and the sensor technology of StormHarvester.
Digital 3D Proof Slot - Teccon
When implementing construction and infrastructure projects, excavation damage and unforeseen underground situations often cause delays and additional costs. Teccon confronts these problems and is the first company in the Benelux to use the Stream C of IDS GeoRadar. This latest generation ground radar scans terrains in flat coverage. The 3D scan of the subsurface is combined with radio detection, camera inspection and surveying equipment. The data is processed into a detailed 3D plan of the subsurface. This plan forms the basis for the design and/or during the execution of projects.
The Audience Award adds a third prize to the Techni-Mat Awards in addition to the Sustainability Award and Technical Award. All nominees will receive a place in the Wall of Fame during Techni-Mat and visitors can vote for their favorite on Wednesday, March 25. The nominee with the most public votes will be awarded the Audience Award during the awards ceremony.
The award ceremony will take place on Wednesday evening at 7:30 p.m. and is open to all visitors to Techni-Mat. In addition to an award, the winners will also receive a diploma. They will also receive visibility on a platform of their choice from Louwers Mediagroep.
