Concrete revolution along the waterfront

Concrete shoring is durable and on the rise

Concrete shoring is back in the spotlight as placement is increasingly tendered in conjunction with maintenance. Officials and landowners alike are asking contractors to come up with an integrated proposal. Concrete scores many times better than a wooden solution. The company Filamat from Edes is also starting a study into the circularity of concrete shoring.

It is precisely the replacement times that play an important role. Wooden shoring must be replaced after only about 10-15 years, and impregnated material comes into contact with nature. Concrete has a lifespan of more than 50 years and thus requires no maintenance. For officials, consultants, contractors and developers, Filamat is now launching an online platform (www.filamat.nl) with helpful specification texts, for example.

Circular concrete
Gijs Jansen is a director at Filamat and developed the fiberglass-reinforced material with his team. Gijs: "The material is ironclad. Fiberglass-reinforced shoring sections and posts make shoring last a very long time. When projects do eventually get replaced, we make sure we collect the old parts. We will start a study of circularity in our lab in 2019. We expect to have a method ready within a few months that separates the fibers from the concrete so that we can then produce new shoring parts again with very fine grains."

Friendly to flora and fauna
Because the product consists entirely of sand, cement and fiberglass, it has no negative impact on human and animal health. There are no harmful substances in the product and it is 100% recyclable. The boards are frost and moisture insensitive and therefore do not rot. Moreover, they can be placed directly in the water.

Easy placement
Due to the ideal width of 1.20 meters, the shouldering parts can be placed in almost all curves. Heights and colors are variable. Has a shoe section become damaged? The individual parts can be easily removed from the existing structure and replaced with new ones.
