"Lilla Integralen" building with distinct facade made of GreenCoat® steel, nominated for the Plåtpriset 2019

The striking building "Lilla Integralen" has a facade made of GreenCoat® pre-painted steel from SSAB and has been named a finalist for Sweden's esteemed architecture award Plåtpriset 2019.

SSAB continues to strengthen its position among innovative architects creating award-winning buildings. Recently, the renowned Sandellsandberg Arkitekter decided to use durable GreenCoat® steel for the very unique apartment building "Lilla Integralen" in the newly built residential area Vallastaden in Linköping, Sweden. The first phase of the housing project in Vallastaden resulted in 1,000 apartments built by 40 different architects.

"Lilla Integralen" is an elegant semi-detached house with four apartments on three floors and a roof terrace. The building's distinctive shape flaunts a sinus-shaped, profiled facade made of high-quality GreenCoat® prepainted steel to ensure durability in harsh weather conditions and for high aesthetic value.

The color Metallic Silver was chosen to create beautiful light reflections in the relatively densely populated Vallastaden neighborhood.

SSAB
Thomas Sandell chose GreenCoat® steel for the facade of "Lilla Integralen" because of its durability, resistance and aesthetics.

"Because we see sustainability from a long-term perspective, we try to find a good balance between environmental and social responsibility in architecture. When we draw a house, it will last for many generations, and that naturally places demands on the material we use. The use of GreenCoat® steel, which offers both durability and environmental benefits, was natural," explains Thomas Sandell of Sandellsandberg Arkitekter.

Not only do GreenCoat® products deliver top performance and are beautiful, most also feature a Bio-based Technology (BT) coating with a high proportion of vegetable oil instead of fossil oil, traditionally used. This patented coating technology is currently the only one of its kind.

The construction process went smoothly and GreenCoat® was praised for its ability to adapt to the large amount of detail that the design of "Lilla Integralen" required.

"Lilla Integralen" is one of five buildings nominated for the 2019 Plåtpriset, which aims to encourage and honor innovative and sustainable buildings that use properties and expressions of metals in successful architectural design. The winner will be announced at the architecture event Plåt, on April 25 in Gothenburg, Sweden.
