Significantly extend the service life of structures: Durable treatment of concrete, steel and rebar

Bjond Innovation is a service knowledge company founded by Jo van Montfort. From an extensive experience, the company offers advice and assistance in the protection of building materials such as steel, concrete and rebar. Bjond Innovation is also increasingly called upon for damage assessments of these materials and their repair. This expertise is of capital importance to ensure the safety and increase the lifespan of monuments, artworks, utility buildings, tunnels, office buildings and residential towers.

Integral approach

Bjond Innovation approaches each question from a 360° vision. For example, the specific requirements of the materials themselves are considered first. Then they are evaluated in the whole context. This takes into account the use, in this case tolerances and loads, the minimum service life and the influence of external factors such as the weather in general or the influence of a maritime environment in particular on the materials. Based on these complex parameters, Bjond Innovation proposes the most adequate treatment with the adapted coatings. In doing so, it considers the coatings themselves as building materials, with their own mechanical and physical properties.

Bjond Innovation offers its services not only for new construction, but also for renovation. In recent years, it has also been increasingly consulted for damage assessments of existing structures, putting forward sustainable repair solutions.

To measure is to know

Bjond Innovation is also responsible for monitoring the building materials, because measuring is only sure. For this purpose, it developed small sensors with transmitters that can be read permanently and remotely, without the need for anyone to go on site. These units, with the size of a smartphone, allow real-time determination of how the materials "feel" or "behave" and what interventions are needed in the process. A good practical example of this can be found at the Zeeland Bridge, the longest bridge in the Netherlands, whose condition of the pillars can be consulted permanently.

Strong in innovation

Bjond Innovation's entire approach is based on innovation and out-of-the-box thinking. It develops, either itself or together with external specialists, its own maintenance and repair strategies, its own measuring and monitoring equipment and new anti-corrosion concepts as well as completely new building materials and super protective tolerant coatings. Its method of working focuses on "Product - Process & People" with maximum respect for the environment.

Recently, Bjond Innovation, together with an external partner, developed two groundbreaking protective coatings: one to protect concrete from acids and one for steel. They are made based on ceramic binders that cause no harmful residues or chemical waste and can even be applied to wet or partially rusted surfaces. The application of these new coatings is up to 50% more economical than other similar treatments. The application of these ceramic coatings to rebar safeguards the stability of the structure much longer. Thanks to this innovation, the expected lifetime of concrete can be doubled from 50 to 100 years!
