CERO Wins Sustainabilty Award

Cement-free CERO paving double in prizes at Techni-Mat!

CERO, STRADUS' new line of paving products based on cement-free geopolymer concrete, won the Sustainability Award at the Techni-Mat Awards ceremony on Wednesday, Oct. 7. A professional jury nominated CERO along with two other candidates from a total of 26 entries. This indicates that CERO is a welcome innovation within the paving market. As a major strength, the jury cited the fact that CERO paving involves lower CO2 emissions and yet manages to combine this with high-quality finishing options for the overlay. It was the first case from the 26 to be reviewed and immediately the strongest.

Public also votes for CERO

CERO also proved to be the public's big favorite at Techni-Mat, as STRADUS also took home the Audience Award. Visitors to the fair were also given the opportunity to cast their votes on Wednesday. CERO competed here not only against the two other nominees in the Sustainability Award category, but also the three candidates in the Technical Award category.

Other nominations

The two other candidates for the Sustainability Award, innovations by Riopro and Pluvio, were both innovations aimed at infiltration and filtration of rainwater. This is to prevent flooding and dehydration of the soil, a hot topic to which STRADUS also pays continuous attention on the paving side.

Under the Technical Award, innovations from CGK Group, Wavin and Teccon were selected by the jury.

CERO: quality decorative paving, at lower environmental impact

By 2030, Belgium must reduce CO2 emissions by 35% (compared to 2005). Our local public authorities also have an important role to play here. CERO offers the possibility to contribute at the local level to a sustainable future. So with CERO, you as a board choose quality ornamental paving, at a lower environmental impact!

CERO paving uses cement-free geopolymer concrete and consequently has very low CO2 emissions. This is up to 70% lower than that of standard concrete products and even 35% lower than that of products based on more sustainable cement types. This without sacrificing quality and with the familiar decorative coatings.

Geopolymer concrete replaces cement as a binder with geopolymer. Geopolymer concrete is not new, but so far it has not been used in Belgium for paving products. Following in the footsteps of CRH sister company Struyk Verwo Infra, which developed and previously launched CERO on the Dutch market, STRADUS is now introducing paving based on geopolymer concrete to the Belgian market for the first time.

CERO is KOMO approved and fits perfectly into a circular economy. The cementitious coating means that the familiar decorative coating remains untouched. The CERO range offers a choice of more than 80 formats and 5 finishes.
