Riwal implements virtual reality training simulator

Riwal, rental and sales specialist of aerial work platforms and telehandlers, is implementing a Virtual Reality simulator as its latest innovative solution to improve safety and efficiency when working at height.

The Virtual Reality (VR) simulator is designed to improve safety and efficiency when using aerial work platforms. By using a simulator, training is conducted in a controlled virtual environment. Using preset scenarios (tailored to the construction industry), your operators go through various risky situations and are given difficult tasks. In this way, both new and experienced operators are challenged to operate the machines as optimally and safely as possible. The simulator includes training programs for articulated and scissor lifts (categories 3A and 3B) and complements IPAF and SOG AWP training. Each unit is connected to a work bucket (where an operator stands), features VR goggles and a control panel with joysticks and switches similar to those on real aerial platform panels.

The VR training simulator creates a safe environment in which operators can train. It lowers personal safety risks for new operators and can save a significant sum of money on damage to equipment and infrastructure. In addition, this innovation allows operators to refresh their experience. This is particularly useful when an operator has not worked with a machine for a long time and is still in the period between IPAF training sessions. Better-trained operators are thus able to work more confidently with different machines, improving project efficiency.
