Concrete House starts project Naturally healthy and safe

For years, the concrete industry has been working on employee health and safety. Various projects have resulted in demonstrable improvements in employee safety awareness. At the same time, Betonhuis has noticed that attention to health and safety occasionally slips a bit, especially when it comes to calling employees to account for unsafe behavior. This is why Betonhuis started the project Naturally healthy and safe.

Fair, Healthy and Safe Work Program

The project Naturally healthy and safe is part of the Ministry of Social Affairs and Employment's Fair, Healthy and Safe Work Program. Program Manager Eline de Vries: "This is and remains an important topic, because it can and must be improved. Especially given the fact that every year in the Netherlands forty employees die as a result of a work-related accident and over four thousand people die as a result of an occupational disease. The program facilitates industries and companies with a joint approach in which good practices are shared and developed. What is important here is to realize that we can make all kinds of projects and plans, but that it has to happen in daily work. Healthy and safe working requires attention every day, from everyone."

Start project

Concrete House organized a conference to kick off the project. Chairman Rob van Gijzel commented: "The big problem with this subject is that many companies have already achieved a lot. This makes you think that everything is fine, while there is always room for improvement. We want people in our industry to work safely, by healthy and happy employees who have confidence in themselves and the company they work for."

Twelve companies

To the project Naturally healthy and safe twelve companies from the concrete industry are participating. They will practice conducting dialogues in master classes with behavioral psychologists.

Dialogue is a tool for companies to learn how to deal with each other and shape mutual cooperation. Step by step, we work on mutual trust and joint responsibility within a company to work safely and healthily so that it becomes as natural as brushing your teeth.
