On November 17 and 18, the Concrete Association is organizing its annual knowledge and networking event: the Concrete Event. Wednesday, November 17 is all about gaining knowledge online and visitors can follow various knowledge sessions online. Thursday, November 18 is all about meeting physically at the Van Nelle Fabriek in Rotterdam. Meeting places, the well-known networking square and the presentation of the Concrete Award 2021 are central to this day. Of course, there will again be a substantive lecture.
This time, even more than in previous years, the consequences of our actions for nature and climate are central. The Dutch Concrete Agreement is slowly beginning to bear its first fruit and the concrete sector is working on all kinds of innovations on a broad scale and successfully. This is also the opinion of Frans Timmermans, Vice President of the European Commission and figurehead of the European Green Deal.
Frans Timmermans will open the Concrete Event on Wednesday, November 17. After this opening, Dorien Staal (Beyond Prefab & Concrete Association) and Maikel Jagroep (Concrete Association) will enter into a conversation with Ronel Dielissen (Heidelberg Cement), Peter Struik (Rijkswaterstaat), Marten Klein (Ingenieursbureau Amsterdam) and Bart Smolders (Heijmans). What impact do current climate developments have on our industry? What does the Concrete Agreement mean for their activities? Do the current goals meet everyone's expectations and where do the table guests see challenges?
After this plenary opening, the knowledge sessions will start, put together by the program committee and partners. During the morning the themes of Climate Adaptation and Energy Transition are central, in the afternoon Urbanization and Circularity. The themes will be highlighted from various angles.
Both the morning and afternoon programs will conclude with a joint session: De Betonwereld Draait Door. In this session Dorien Staal and Maikel Jagroep talk to the speakers of the themes. What do they encounter? What are they proud of? How do they see the future? What developments are coming? In short, these promise to be interesting sessions!
Thursday, November 18, the doors of the Van Nelle Factory in Rotterdam will open. This day is all about meeting each other. Meeting places will be created in the Tobacco Factory for partners to present their companies and expertise. There will also be a speakers' corner where substantive lectures will be given. The presentation of the Concrete Award 2021 will also take place during this day!
Entry for the Concrete Prize was open to construction projects realized in the past 2 years in the Netherlands or by a Dutch company abroad. Of the total 56 entries, the following 15 projects were nominated, divided into 6 categories:
