After three years, the time has finally come again: the only annual event for material advocates from all sectors of spatial design is back, with a new location. With 125 exhibitors, an exhibition with 250 materials and a lecture program with 50 speakers, MaterialDistrict Utrecht will again be brimming with material inspiration from April 5 to 7, 2022, this time in the Werkspoor Cathedral Utrecht. The event is fully committed to the circular economy.
How can you build circularly? Which materials contribute to a healthy living environment? Will we soon be saving or generating energy with smart materials? MaterialDistrict Utrecht (formerly Material Xperience) is the only annual event in the Netherlands that brings together material manufacturers and specifiers of materials from all sectors of spatial design and answers key questions on the road to a circular built and furnished environment.
Whereas the event previously took place in Rotterdam Ahoy, MaterialDistrict has moved to the Werkspoor Cathedral in Utrecht for this edition. This was already planned for the 2021 edition, which unfortunately could not take place due to Covid-19.
The Werkspoor Cathedral is an immense industrial work shed and a unique location bustling with creativity and innovation.
This year, more exhibitors than ever are showing (material) innovations within the themes of Circularity, Wellbeing and Energy Transition, a direct result of the MaterialDistrict Innovation Fund which was established by MaterialDistrict in 2019. Startups and designers can receive grants from the fund on their exhibition participation. An independent advisory committee plays an important role in scouting startups and reviewing grant applications.
All 250 selected materials in the annual exhibition fall within one or more of the three sustainable themes.
MaterialDistrict Utrecht is known for its high-profile lecture program, in which renowned (inter)national architects, scientists, designers and other experts share the latest developments in the field of materials with the audience. This year there will again be two simultaneous theater programs in which a lineup of no less than 50 speakers will share their knowledge and experience with visitors.
The 15th edition of MaterialDistrict Utrecht will take place from April 5 to 7 at the Werkspoor Cathedral in Utrecht. With 6,000 expected visitors, 125 exhibitors and 5,800 m2 surface area, the materials event for (interior) architects and R&D professionals will again be fully dedicated to material innovations for the spatial domain: Architecture, Interior, Garden & Landscape Architecture, Leisure, Exhibition & Decor Building and Furniture & Interior Building.
