The CSC system evaluates the sustainability performance of concrete manufacturers based on several criteria, including environmental performance, social commitment, economic responsibility and the use of sustainable raw materials. When a company is awarded CSC certification, it demonstrates the organization's commitment to sustainable practices in the production of concrete. Certification can have different levels, including bronze, silver, gold and platinum, with higher levels indicating a greater commitment to sustainability. Achieving CSC certification is an important step for companies to reduce their carbon footprint and contribute to a more sustainable construction industry.
"We are delighted and proud that Willemen Infra has today achieved significant milestones. Our commitment to ecological responsibility has resulted - after a thorough external audit by SGS Intron - in the achievement of the gold CSC label for all our concrete plants and the remarkable platinum label for our recycling centers. This means that we not only meet but even excel in the highest standards of sustainability in Belgium," says Joris De Kesel, General Director of Willemen Infra.
"The gold CSC label for our concrete plants is a reflection of the dedication we show in every aspect of our concrete production. Our efforts throughout the production process - from choosing sustainable raw materials to optimizing production processes for energy efficiency - have led to this wonderful recognition. Our concrete plants are now recognized as leaders in sustainability in the construction industry," said Dirk Christianen, Director of Production and Recycling.
"We not only meet the highest standards, we exceed them," Christianen continues. "For our recycling sites, we were awarded the platinum CSC label. We are the first in Belgium to achieve this highest recognition for sustainability in the recycling sector. This not only testifies to our commitment to sustainable recycling practices, but also makes us pioneers in this field."
At the end of December 2023, Willemen Infra also received the CO2 Performance Ladder level 5 certificate. "This means that we not only work on our own direct CO2 emissions, but also on all our indirect scope 3 emissions," explains Franky Van den Berghe, Sustainability Manager at Willemen Groep. "To achieve level 5, a company not only works on its own emissions, but also on those of the entire sector chain. The certificate is fully in line with Willemen Groep's CO2 reduction plan."
"These certifications are not an end point, but rather an incentive to continue with our sustainability efforts," Van den Berghe concludes. "They emphasize that we are not only building infrastructures, but also a more sustainable future. Our commitment to innovation, environmental awareness and social responsibility has brought us where we are today. Our ultimate goal is to help build a better world in a climate-neutral way."
