Strengthening position in Belgian and French markets
Teunesen Zand en Grint B.V. in Heijen has acquired Belgian Cementbouw Zand en Grind NV with effect from June 1, 2022. Teunesen thus strengthens its position on the Belgian and French markets. Cementbouw Zand en Grind produces and supplies materials and raw materials for the infra and construction sectors and is based in Ghent. The three employees will join Teunesen.
Teunesen has acquired the Belgian division of Cementbouw Sand and Gravel from Cementbouw BV, which belongs to the publicly traded CRH. Cementbouw Zand en Grind NV fits well into Teunesen's portfolio. The company from Ghent participates, among others, in Steengoed Projecten in Belgium, which produces gravel from the Meuse in Elerweerd. Eight mineral producers, including Bichterweerd NV, have joined forces in Steengoed Projects. Bichterweerd is owned by Teunesen for 50%.
With the acquisition of Cementbouw Zand en Grind, Teunesen also has permits for sea sand extraction off the Dutch coast. The extracted sand is processed at its own facility in Ghent. "Since it is becoming increasingly difficult to obtain permits on land, permits at sea are of great added value," says Teunesen director Ton Driessen. By investing in the Belgian producer and total supplier of sand and gravel for professional construction and infrastructure in Belgium and France, Teunesen gains greater access to the international market and is thus even better prepared for the future.
