Residence Inn by Marriott Ghent is a modular construction project in Belgium. The hotel was designed by ARCH & TECO. Construction started in late 2018/early 2019 and the project was completed in late 2019. Total area: about 6,000 m². Aalborg White-based self-compacting concrete precast cladding panels were installed as external facade on the modular system to achieve the desired aesthetic architecture create.
"We started thinking about and experimenting with modular construction because we see the need to do something about building efficiency and construction cost savings," explains Sebastien Cools, CEO of ARCH & TECO. "The biggest advantage of the modular construction system is that you can reduce the construction time of a project by about 50%. This results in a significant reduction of and profit in project costs. The elements for the CD20 building system (modular system from contractor Cordeel) are reusable and durable. So it is also a beneficial system for the environment."
"We were looking for a building appearance and building architecture that was bearable, solid and durable, but also tactile and fresh," Cools says. "That's also why we chose 'white.' We designed a kind of dynamic facade with panels in multiple directions."
