Digitization, integrated collaboration, and an ever-increasing level of detail in design and execution. The winners of the 2026 Construsoft BIM Awards demonstrate how Building Information Modeling (BIM) is evolving from a design tool into a strategic instrument for the entire construction supply chain. BIM-Works, Byldis, Mertens Bouwbedrijf, Reijrink Staalconstructie, Teken- en Adviesburo Gerard van Meerveld, and Victor Buyck Steel Construction took home the top prizes in their respective categories. According to the jury, this sets them apart in the areas of innovation, manufacturability, sustainability, and collaboration.
The 2026 edition attracted 25 entries from a wide range of disciplines within the construction sector. From large-scale residential construction and complex steel structures to infrastructure projects and sports facilities: the diversity of projects underscores just how widely BIM is now being applied. It is noteworthy that not only large market players participated, but also smaller companies that, through smart digital work methods, demonstrate that BIM is accessible to organizations of all sizes.

The expert jury consisted of Frank Maatje (Bouwen met Staal), Maikel Jagroep (Betonvereniging), Hans Hendriks (deBIMspecialist), and Jeroen Coenders (Packhunt & Voortaan). The evaluation focused on BIM usage, innovative strength, feasibility, sustainability, and the extent to which a project stands out within its sector. According to the jury, the quality of the entries was once again high.
What stood out in particular was the growing focus on sustainability, the reuse of materials, and energy conservation. In addition, the jury noted a clear increase in the use of BIM in infrastructure projects. This trend confirms that digital engineering is no longer limited to commercial and residential construction but is also being used more and more frequently in complex bridges, civil engineering structures, and other infrastructure projects.
The competition is organized annually by software provider Construsoft for users of Tekla Structures and Trimble Connect. The submitted projects were developed entirely or partially using these digital platforms, which bring together design, production, and construction processes within a single integrated environment.

In the Commercial Projects category, the award went to Byldis for the Dreef Residential Tower in Amsterdam. The residential tower, located across from the Johan Cruijff ArenA, is one of the tallest residential buildings in the capital and serves as a key link in the ongoing urban development of Amsterdam-Zuidoost.
For this project, Byldis supplied the entire precast concrete shell and the facades. The project made extensive use of a model-based approach in which engineering, production, and assembly are digitally integrated. According to the jury, the project stands out for its high level of detail and the consistent structure of the BIM model. By using proprietary extensions within Trimble Connect, the reliance on traditional 2D drawings was significantly reduced. The project thus demonstrates how a fully digital construction process can function in practice, with the model serving as the central source of information.
The award for Industrial Projects went to Reijrink Staalconstructie for Greenport in Pernis. At this site in the Rotterdam port area, work is underway on one of the largest shipbuilding sites in the Netherlands, featuring halls of impressive dimensions designed for large-scale maritime structures.
It is precisely in projects of this scale that the role BIM can play in managing complex processes becomes apparent. Large spans, extensive steel structures, and a fast construction pace require precise coordination between design, engineering, and construction. According to the jury, the project excels in its combination of scale and speed. By using BIM as a central coordination tool, processes could be better managed and failure costs minimized. In doing so, Greenport demonstrates how digitalization makes a significant contribution to the completion of complex industrial construction projects within short lead times.
The most notable double win went to Victor Buyck Steel Construction. The company not only won the Infrastructure Projects category but also received the People’s Choice Award for the Ringvaart Bridge in Ghent. The project received 208 of the 1,861 total votes cast.
The bridge serves as a new gateway to the Ghent harbor area and is impressive for its size and distinctive pyramid shape. With a length of over 100 meters, a width of approximately 55 meters, and a steel weight of more than 2,600 metric tons, the project ranks among the larger steel infrastructure structures of recent years.
The jury particularly praised the integrated approach to design and construction. The bridge was largely built alongside the Ringvaart and then moved into its final position using pontoons and specialized transport equipment. This operation was only possible thanks to meticulous preparation and digital coordination. According to the jury, the Ringvaart Bridge is a compelling example of how BIM can contribute to the successful completion of large-scale infrastructure projects that combine design quality, technical complexity, and construction reliability.
In the Sports and Recreation category, Mertens Bouwbedrijf was recognized for the Glanerbrook Sports Complex. This large-scale project combines sports halls, swimming pools, an ice rink, and various outdoor facilities within a single integrated complex. It brings together existing and new buildings to create a cohesive sports environment.
According to the jury, the project’s strength lies in the integration of various construction methods. Steel, concrete, and wood structures are combined within a single design, while building systems and energy infrastructure are also fully integrated into the BIM model. This integrated approach was essential because the complex remained partially in use during construction. By digitally coordinating all disciplines in advance, risks were minimized and feasibility was enhanced. The project’s sustainability goals also stand out, with solar panels, energy storage, and the reuse of residual heat serving as key pillars of the design.
The BIM Awards 2026 once again demonstrate that BIM is evolving into an indispensable component of modern construction processes. The award-winning projects demonstrate that digital collaboration not only leads to better coordination but also contributes to higher quality, greater sustainability, and more efficient execution. As such, the winners represent the direction in which the concrete and steel sectors are increasingly moving.
