Innovative Technologies for the Production of Hollow-Core Slab Floors

More efficient, more cost-effective, and more environmentally friendly

Through sustainable technologies and strategic investments, E. Victor Meyer demonstrates how innovation and efficiency can go hand in hand in the construction industry. By utilizing state-of-the-art machinery from Echo Precast Engineering, a Progress Group company, the firm is strengthening its market position while simultaneously reducing its carbon footprint—setting an example for the entire industry.

E. Victor Meyer, a company based in Belgium that was originally founded in 1980 as a transportation company, has grown into a major player in the construction industry. Following the expansion of its business activities—from crushing and screening stone to the production of prestressed concrete products—the company is now pursuing a clear strategy: modernization through innovative technologies.

Strategic investments in efficiency and sustainability

In light of rising cement prices and increasingly stringent requirements for CO2 reduction, E. Victor Meyer invested in an extensive modernization of its production facilities. The goal was to make processes more efficient, cost-effective, and environmentally friendly. To achieve this, the company relies on technology from Echo Precast Engineering, including the S-Liner® T30 slipform paver, the SmartJet automatic plotter, and the concrete suction pump.

Sustainable and fast

The switch to slipform technology was a milestone: by using ‘zero-slump concrete,’ cement consumption was reduced by as much as 20%, significantly improving the CO2 balance. In addition, the curing time was reduced from 24 to 16 hours—a 30% gain in efficiency.

Accurate and Digital

The SmartJet automatic plotter optimizes production through precise markings, integrated drilling of drainage holes, and paperless documentation. The result is higher product quality with a reduced workload.

Focus on Ergonomics

Complex components with numerous openings can be manufactured more quickly and ergonomically using the concrete suction machine. For employees, this means a significant reduction in physical strain. “Reducing cement consumption was the main reason for the modernization,” says Raymond Palm, director of E. Victor Meyer. “In addition, we considered the improved curing of the products to be important. Whereas we used to need 24 hours, we now only need 16 to 18 hours.”

Current market trends as a driving force

The modernization not only enables E. Victor Meyer to reduce costs but also to meet future environmental standards—a decisive advantage in an industry that is increasingly committed to sustainability. At the same time, the company is responding to the trend toward prestressed concrete elements, for which demand is growing, particularly for floor elements. To capitalize on this development, E. Victor Meyer acquired another company that was already producing prestressed concrete and strategically expanded its portfolio. “The fact that Echo Precast Engineering is only an hour’s drive away and that we’ve been working together for years was certainly a strategic advantage here,” says Palm about the collaboration with the Progress Group. “From the initial consultation through to the installation of the new machines, both we and the project were supported with expertise and reliability.”

A big step forward

By investing in modern machinery, E. Victor Meyer demonstrates its commitment to innovation and sustainability. These new technologies not only ensure the company’s competitiveness but also strengthen its position as a forward-looking market leader in precast concrete production.
