Strombeek Business Park is a future-oriented office complex at a central and strategic location along the A12 in Grimbergen. Strombeek Business Park stands for working close to Brussels Airport and the Brussels North railway station. The project covers 17,000 m2 of office space spread over five buildings, three of which are for offices, and has 345 parking spaces.
Strombeek Business Park is being developed by Resolve Real Estate as a response to the demand for high-quality office space on the Brussels northern edge. Jaspers-Eyers Architects was responsible for the high-quality and timeless architecture and contracting company Cordeel for the construction. The use of Aalborg Portland White cement in the concrete gives the buildings a flawless and fresh white appearance, which also has a positive effect on the indoor climate and energy picture.
Working in Strombeek Business Park has its advantages: there are catering and fitness facilities available, the outdoor areas are particularly peaceful thanks to abundant greenery and wadis, the view of the Atomium is inspiring, there are numerous terraces and the whole meets the highest sustainability targets. Strombeek Business Park lends itself to various activities: high-tech spaces, labs, classic offices and SME spaces, and most of the parking can be equipped with a charging station.
As a direct result of the corona pandemic, the building was designed with as little need for manual contact as possible. For example, the entrance halls have handleless automatic doors. The lighting is controlled by absence detectors without push buttons and the taps at the washbasins have infrared controls. Within the same context, particular attention was paid to the indoor climate and to healthy air, avoiding recirculation of air. For comfort, the buildings are cooled and heated with climate ceilings that provide a pleasant radiant effect without air circulation.
Jaspers-Eyers Architects is a renowned international architectural firm with offices in Brussels, Leuven and Hasselt. In its designs, it attaches great importance to a sense of community, environmental context and living environment. With Strombeek Business Park too, this attitude has led to a realization that meets all set expectations and will easily stand the test of time. Openness, great heights, spaciousness, light and horizontal layering characterize this project built by Cordeel.
Contracting company Cordeel is part of the Cordeel Group nv, with 1,600 employees and an annual turnover of over 800 MIO Euros. It is an esteemed full-service one-stop construction partner with dire attention to sustainability. Here, she was in charge of construction in concrete and glass, where the size of some of the concrete precast walls presented challenges.
A conscious choice was made to work with white concrete in order to further emphasize the purity and cleanliness of the design. For this purpose, Aalborg White Cement was added to the concrete. This is a highly resistant and fast-curing Portland cement, made from pure limestone and finely ground white sand. The result is an extremely white color, with low alkali content and high sulfate resistance.
There is ample evidence that white concrete, in addition to its many aesthetic and product qualities, can also help achieve a number of sustainability goals. White concrete exterior walls reflect the sun's rays, thus heat, keeping a building cooler, thus saving on air conditioning. In the face of global warming, these arguments can no longer be brushed aside.
Aalborg Portland also distributes Aalborg White Cement in Belgium, a product that holds a strong international position and is exported to more than 70 countries. Aalborg White Cement can also serve as a base for subsequent mixing with pigments to create colored concrete.
